A Different Bet
Our thesis came from watching too many of the right ideas end up in the wrong hands. Or no hands at all.
The details vary. But it always goes something like this.
A senior professional, fifteen to twenty years deep in their field, reaches a point where the questions become unavoidable.
Wired by instinct to question the status quo and always looking for a better answer, they start to see things that others have long stopped questioning. Inefficiencies that have hardened into accepted practice. Structural shifts the organization is not ready to face. Real solutions sitting in plain sight. So they do what people like this always do. They build coalitions, marshal resources, make the case, and invest their credibility in getting the idea off the ground.
Inevitably, most run into the same resistance. Organizations are built to preserve what works, not to bet on what might. The reluctance to invest in unproven ideas, the territorial barriers, the institutional gravity that keeps things exactly as they are. In most cases the idea fades. The insight earned through years of deep domain and practical experience goes nowhere.
The ones who refuse to let it go look outside. They turn toward the startup world and venture capital expecting to find a path. What they find instead is an ecosystem built around a very different profile. Startup native founders, chasing the latest technology wave toward the largest possible outcome in the shortest possible time. A world that was never quite built for the person whose greatest asset is twenty years of living inside the problem they want to solve.

Our Solution
FORMER is a venture studio built for the career professional turned founder, a group often underserved by traditional venture capital.
A venture studio built around 3 convictions:
Experience Over Credentials
Venture capital has long relied on a narrow set of signals. Prior startup experience, technical pedigree, pattern-matched profiles. What that misses is the founder who has spent a career operating inside the very problem they are now solving. That depth of knowledge is not a credential. It is an unfair advantage. It is where FORMER starts.
Who We BackSleeves Up. Always.
We co-build. That means bringing complementary skills alongside every founder — design and product thinking paired with strategy and operational execution — from the first question through every consequential decision. It is a genuine co-founding partnership, not a service relationship. We carry the work because we are invested in the outcome.
How We WorkProfitability First
A company that cannot sustain itself is not a company. We back founders building businesses designed to grow on their own terms, generate real returns, and solve problems that matter without depending on the next round of capital to survive.

We Know This From The Inside
We started FORMER because we lived this problem ourselves.
Two people who spent twenty-five years moving across industries, disciplines and scales, navigating the most consequential moments in organizations at every stage of development. From early-stage startups' pivotal decisions to inflection points inside established enterprises, we were at the center of where things got started, iterated, and scaled.
What we kept encountering was the same frustrated potential. Experienced professionals with real insight and no viable structure to act on it. We built FORMER from outside the conventions of how venture is supposed to operate. Not because we didn't understand them but because we understood exactly why they weren't working for this cohort. That position is not a gap in our credentials. It is the foundation of everything we built.
